Apartment renovation and oak flooring restoration in Préverenges

With VITA NOVA, FABINHA SA presents the interior renovation of an apartment located in Préverenges, in the canton of Vaud. Inspired by the Latin expression meaning "new life", this project is based on a simple approach: reveal the character of the existing materials and restore the natural brightness of the spaces. Complete sanding of the oak flooring, restoration of its original shade, meticulous wall preparation and repainting make up a sober, warm and timeless transformation.

Giving new life to an interior without erasing its character

A successful renovation does not always require replacing materials or completely transforming the layout of an apartment. Sometimes, the existing elements already possess all the qualities necessary to create an elegant and warm interior.

For VITA NOVA, our intervention consisted of giving full prominence to oak flooring whose natural appearance had been masked by an old whitened finish, while renovating the wall surfaces and ceilings.

The goal was to restore a more authentic, bright and harmonious atmosphere, by prioritizing enhanced existing materials and discreet contemporary finishes.

Oak flooring completely sanded to restore its authenticity

The flooring is the central element of this renovation in Préverenges.

Initially covered with a whitened finish, the oak had lost part of its visual warmth and natural character. Rather than replacing this covering, we undertook complete sanding to remove the old finish and reveal the nuances of the wood once again.

The sanding work requires particular attention to the uniformity of the treatment and the preparation of the surface. It allows to restore a homogeneous appearance while preserving the existing material.

This intervention has profoundly changed the perception of the space. The flooring regains a warm and authentic presence, with a grain and natural tones that now fully contribute to the identity of the apartment.

A matte finish to preserve the natural appearance of the oak

Once the sanding was completed, particular attention was paid to the choice of the finish.

At the owners' request, we favored a matte finish to preserve the natural appearance of the wood and avoid the pronounced reflections of a glossy finish.

This choice allows to highlight the texture of the oak and the richness of its grain, while maintaining a soft and discreet aesthetic.

The result is a bright, warm and timeless flooring, which regains its place as the central element of the interior design.

Preserving existing materials rather than replacing them

The VITA NOVA project illustrates the benefit of considering the qualities of a material before considering its replacement.

When solid wood flooring or a covering compatible with new sanding is in suitable condition, its renovation can be an interesting alternative to complete removal.

This approach allows to retain a material already present in the home, to preserve its character and to avoid the use of new materials when it is not necessary.

In VITA NOVA, the restoration of the flooring is fully part of this logic: to evolve the interior by enhancing what it already has.

Meticulous wall preparation before painting

In addition to the flooring renovation, the apartment benefited from a major restoration of the wall surfaces.

The old layouts had left various marks on the walls: picture mounting holes, television supports, irregularities and traces of old textured coatings.

Our teams proceeded with filling and repairing the imperfections in order to restore homogeneous surfaces, suitable for the application of the new finishes.

These preparatory works, sometimes barely visible once the renovation is completed, are essential to obtain a refined result. The quality of interior paint largely depends on the preparation of the substrate on which it is applied.

RAL 9003 white to reveal light and volumes

The renovation continued with the repainting of the apartment's walls and ceilings, in a RAL 9003 white shade.

This light shade was chosen for its sobriety and its ability to complement natural materials without competing with them.

The new white surfaces contribute to enhancing the brightness of the interior and creating a uniform backdrop, highlighting the warm nuances of the renovated flooring even more.

The combination of natural oak and white creates a timeless palette, where the simplicity of the colors gives full place to the material and the proportions of the spaces.

A new harmony between wood and light surfaces

What characterizes VITA NOVA is the way a few targeted interventions can profoundly change the perception of an apartment.

The flooring regains its natural nuances, the walls offer smooth and homogeneous surfaces, while the light ceilings accompany the light in the different rooms.

The contrast between the warmth of the oak and the sobriety of the white allows to create a brighter interior, without losing the welcoming atmosphere inherent to natural materials.
